Acadia Partners for Science and Learning is changing its name and will begin operating as the ‘Schoodic Education and Research Center Institute’ -- or ‘SERC Institute’ for short. SERC Institute does a better job of communicating who we are and what we do. As a nonprofit organization, SERC Institute exists wholly to support the Schoodic Education and Research Center and to collaborate in carrying out the Center’s work.
Changing the name of this established organization wasn’t taken lightly. Discussions among the Board, staff, and park personnel led to the decision to make the change to a new name that emphasized the close connection between SERC and the nonprofit partner. SERC Institute captures the complex nature of both the financial support and education and research activities that complement the work of the Center.
The Center is currently undergoing renovation and the completed SERC facilities will open in the summer of 2011, further strengthening the research and education capabilities of the site. The updated Schoodic Education and Research Center, together with the new emphasis on supporting research in addition to our work in education, is the primary reason Acadia Partners is being renamed SERC Institute.
SERC Institute has a new address for its website and email to go along with the new name. You can reach SERC Institute at www.sercinstitute.org or info@sercinstitute.org. Please update your address book and bookmarks, but be assured that during the transition, if you use either the new or our old address, you will still be able to reach us.
A new web design is in the planning stage and will emphasize the expanded education and research activities of SERC Institute. We hope that you will check back often and follow our evolution into SERC Institute.
